EA's greed beyond belief. The consumer is not valued anymore. No wonder piracy exists as a much better alternative.

damn

I believe that's now the most downvoted comment in reddit history.

How does Reddit gold work?

Nobody knows. But it is rumoured that when u/kingMidas visits a thread, it sometimes miraculously appears

Not any thread in a part of.

Nope, that spot is still for Riot Sanjuro to hold for eternities to come.

EA has beat that with a whoppin 200k downvotes

Sorry, that was totally my bad and thanks for pointing that out! On first glance I had thought it was at -234 votes, just casually missing the tiny k that comes right after the number xD

Whoops!

Might be 300k by now

It’s is and almost 350k

By now they beat out anything else easily. Currently they're at -239k downvotes xD

God damn, I guess this happens when you give Gamers false hopes xd

Video linked above is related

a link for this humble downvoter?

you are a good man, sir. and hell ea is aiming HIGH for that DOWNvote record.

This new comment has left that one in the dust lol

It is :D but downvoting doesn't change ecobomocs

We'll see.

The exposure to comments like the following, however, does.

DO NOT BUY EA GAMES ANYMORE FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS IF YOU WANT THIS HORRIBLE BEHAVIOR TO STOP

Oh rly? Cause last I checked Battlefront 1 sold 14 million copies while reddit was saying the same thing you just said thinking it would make a difference.

Well its a good thing dumb shits keep buying their games huh?

And if Reddit hadn't, it might have sold 16 million. Who the fuck knows? Less profit is less profit.

Except its not less profit. They have a team of dozens of mathemiticians, staticians, and data scientists who have number crunched and figured out what number of customers they can lose while making more than that loss on IAP. Look at their share price.

Except its not less profit.

Show numbers proving that BF1 sold MORE because of reddit's efforts.

If you can't, your claim is false. Which it is.

They have a team of dozens of mathemiticians, staticians, and data scientists who have number crunched and figured out what number of customers they can lose while making more than that loss on IAP.

Ah yes, because companies with those kinda people never make mistakes.

Should I just assume you're a troll? Or are you genuinely this stupid?

That's not what I'm talking about. People spreading the word about bad business practices will always cause EA to lose sales. In the grand scheme of things, sure, they might get more sales by using those business practices. But if people didn't call them out on it, they'd sell even more.

That's why going around suggesting people to not bother informing other customers is just dumb. People need to be informed, and it does make a difference.

Except their stock price as well as their net income has been steadily going up. Your whole point is moot.

And they probably would have been even higher were it not for the fact that Reddit and various other outlets are informing people.

Were you born this retarded or did someone drop you on your head? Would you like me to draw a picture to go along with it? Or shall I explain my point a fourth time?

Thats purely speculation. For all we know the front page posts about EA were free advertising to hundreds of thousands of people who wouldnt have known about the game otherwise.

Do you honestly believe what is happening now will net EA more sales than it would cost them? If so, we're done here.

I find that kind of hard to believe I'm not saying that he's right but I find it kind of hard to believe that negative reviews and negative comments and on the front page of Reddit and other websites would entice somebody to go buy that trash. I mean it literally has people saying that the game is trash so I don't get how that would be free advertising like you say. If anything that's bad publicity.

You EA cheerleader or something?

nah fuck them

Oh rly? Cause last I checked Battlefront 1 sold 14 million copies while reddit was saying the same thing you just said thinking it would make a difference.

Hey dickface, I didn't say people followed the advice. I just gave the advice. With the current exposure and lots of people saying it, it may make a difference, in contrast to whatever small fuss B1 was about on this site.

They rely on investors, if they were to turn in unsatisfactory numbers for growth and profit their investors will most likely jump ship unless the company makes changes

FTFY:

The last time you told me not to play in the street, a bunch of kids went and did it anyway, so why should I listen to you since nobody else does?

Have fun playing in traffic.

Last time I bought an EA game was Battlefield 2142, so that's easy for me.

I preferred BF Vietnam anyway.

bfv is gr9. want to lan?

240k downvotes AND 11 Reddit Gold, however that works lol

-518k and 46 gold. WTF Reddit.

The most downvoted comments always have gold. It's a way to be part of Reddit history for some, while for others it might be a way to say they disagree with the downvotes.

or EA is buying themselves gold to save face

42 gold now

400k and 45 gold and counting

474k and 41 gold last I checked

Yeah, I’m kinda wondering who gave them gold.

P2W-type kids.

You must be new on reddit. Anything below 500 downvotes tend to get gilded ironically.

The better question to ea would be 'how does it feel, buying your own reddit gold? '

"It's a sense of pride and accomplishment." πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

New meme? new meme

Maybe Reddit users are sending a message with the gold

Giving out gold helps it get to the top of the post, increasing visibility.

I figured it was a big ironic middle finger. "I'd rather pay to see this comment than pay for your game"

I figured it was a big ironic middle finger. "I'd rather pay to see this comment than pay for your game"

Considering the sheer number of downvotes and the fact that it’s been linked to from all over reddit and several other sites, I don’t think visibility is a problem.

I imagine it's so all the EA hate mentioning that user is directly funnelled to their inbox.

I was the 8th gold giver simply to be part of history

I'm still wondering how their post karma isn't negative. lol

Reddit algorithm probably detects that comment as "brigaded" and has stopped letting it affect their comment karma.

"Reddit algorithm"

It's so retarded people from different communities are only allowed to upvote and support.

There's nothing stopping anyone from ever down voting (to my knowledge, perhaps reddit has changed this)

Simply use a keyboard shortcut (z and a should down and upvote)

Or you can disable subreddit style in the top right area around the flair and subscribe part

There's nothing stopping anyone from ever down voting

That's not what he meant. It's that the downvote by a 'brigade' user is counted less or not at all.

I think that's only with RES.

I downvoted your comment, just to prove a point.

No like 80% of their comments are downvoted to hell. I don’t think it’s possible to get negative karma

The user karma score doesn't just add all the post scores together.

It caps the downvotes from each post at -100, and then counts all the upvotes. It is very hard to have a total negative score.

But they sure are trying :)

My very first comment ever went to sth like -60 Karma which made me able to only post every i guess it was 10 minutes? because i had negative karma..

The Gold Ensures that the comment will still be prominent despite the record amount of downvotes

I seen one guy say he gave it gold just so he could say he gave the most downvoted comment gold. Also said he’d rather spend it on something as meaningless as this than Battlefront2.

Themselves, probably.

Paid for by the loot boxes

Every time you downvote, theres a chance they get reddit gold. I mean its like a 0.5% chance, but its still a chance right?

If that was true then everything with more than 200 downvotes would be likely to have gold. (I think that's how the maths works out)

downvote me pls

Sorry I was making a joke about the loot boxes, and how they make the chances for rare items super low.

Ahh ok

Not if it is a 0.5% probability, each individual downvote / loot box purchase gives you the same 0.5% probability.

Flipping a coin is the most basic example I can think of, each side has a 50% chance or coming up (we will eliminate landing on it's edge).

It is possible, but not probable that you could have 100 tails/heads in a row.

but sure with 250k downvotes you have a very good shot at gold, just as with 250 bucks spent on boxes you have a good chance of getting the item you are after but it is still not guaranteed.

Great business model for them, but(t) fuck the consumers!

Every time you downvote, theres a chance they get reddit gold.

Fuck it, it's worth a shot. Feel free to test this theory on me.

With that logic they should have about 1,200 gold right now.

The K is for thousand, so 0.0005% I guess (I didn't count the zero's, I hope it's right) :)

What?

Reminds me of PUBG. I've gotten so many striped shirts and work boots. IT's as if that's all they ever drop.

Fairly certain that in incidents like this people just gild ironically

50 Reddit gold now.

83 gold actually

400K now

over half a million with 57 gold wtf lol, kind of ironic in a way.

331k and 20 gold. I'm lost.

367k and 24 gold. I can't even get one gold for being nice to people.

This reads like something out of /r/niceguys.

But I am a nice guy. Really humble too. I just have a lot to be humble about.

s

462k and 41 gold, and it keeps rolling.

A month later. It has 637k downvotes and 91 gold.

If you want to get gilded you have to be either post super useful info or meme hard everywhere.

Have you tried begging or lying? That always works for me. Here, let me pm you to demonstrate.

I don't have 40 hours to unlock reddit gold. Cant i just buy something to make me equal to /u/S3Ni0r42 ?????

give him reddit silver

!redditcopper

Yeah, all of my gildings have been for shitposts.

There is no greater temptation at giving out gold than a pinch of irony. ;)

5 hour later, -384k

Thats impressive

Yeah, it's 48 gold now.

Gonna hit 500k before the night is over

400k downvotes & 39 gold lol

400k now.

What we see is absolutely "Golden"

450k and 43 now wat

421k at this point, and locked.

You happen to have a link to it?

This post is a cross-post, the OP should link to it.

Oh wow, I'm blind

Its > 500k downvotes now

If at least 415,000 people saw that post -- probably closer to a million just based on how many people actually vote on reddit, and also counting the upvotes -- there are bound to be a few idiots who agree with them. Trump is president, after all.

Broke 600,000 not long ago.

r/negativewithgold

278k as of 0945 EST

Almost 300 K

Currently at 303k

-305k now.

It's now at - 310k and it's only been 9 minutes. Thats almost 500 downvotes per minute

21 minutes after your comment it is at -326k

And now it's -337k

Too late, -339.5k and rising faster than high ride

-352k ! If this keeps up its gonna hit 400k.

-357k

Choo choo, motherfucker!

ELI5 for out of the loop folks?

Unlocking Darth Vader in the new Battlefront takes 60.000 credits, which apparently takes about 40 hours of gameplay to gather.

But buying lootboxes makes this much, much faster, as I understand it.

So, obviously people that paid full price for this game were pissed: Darth Vader is pretty much one of those characters you buy the game for: you want to be able to play as Vader, Luke, Yoda, Rey, etc. Locking him after such an obvious paywall is fucking disgusting.

The response of EA? It supposedly has nothing to do with lootboxes. Making him cost a lot of credits, and thus lots of game time, makes it more rewarding once you unlock him. You'll be proud of having unlocked him.

Which, of course, people think is BS, and I tend to agree with them. I'm glad I never buy games at release any more.

In this case the OP spent 80 bucks and not even a hero unlocked...

Dunno how they did back in the day and unlocked all the heros right off the bat. Og Battlefront 2 best Battlefront.

You're getting the skeleton of a game for $80 lol

The game as a whole is worth $30, maybe not even that.

The sad part is that is so unfortunately true. I'll give them props for the polish and sound design of the first Battlefront. But it felt hollow and empty and super repetitive.

Then the sequelis announced and it doesn't seem like it's fixed anything (can't be sure till release. To make matters worse they're selling us chunks of what was the base experience in older titles...

Is that 60 or 60 thousand?

60 thousand

Many European (and probably other non-USA) countries use a period instead of a comma for large numbers (and I think they use a comma instead of a period for decimal points).

In Lithuania we use spaces for large numbers and comma for decimal points.

60 000 = 60k 59,999 ~= 60

6 * 104 master race

6e4

The reason it is bullshit, because if that were the case then you shouldn't be able to PAY to unlock him either.

"Oh, but you did work for that money, eh, buddy boy? Which means that you still earned the guy, and now you have the same feeling of accomplishment!"

Probably what EA would say.

[deleted]

How is this different from Blizzard and the way which heroes are unlocked in Heroes of the Storm? It takes a very long time to unlock them for free, but you have the ability to purchase them, but nobody is outraged at blizzard.

Because it's free to play I assume which honestly I'm fine with. Paying 60 for this worse-than-an-f2p model is the main issue I see with it.

League made this model somehow digestible to the masses.

(by being f2p games)

Valve ported dota just fine without charging a dime for the character pool.

Heroes of the storm is free to play, and has a balanced free hero rotation.

It would have been fine if they didn't allow it to be unlocked with money. Many games have capstone rewards... But being able to purchase them is what ruins it.

Also the game itself is already $80. Very, very expensive.

The other part of it is that apparently it will always take 40 hours of gameplay to gather.

I can go afk every match while you frag outrageous and be team MVP, and we'll still get the same amount of credits at the end, if what I've been reading is true.

So much for a sense of accomplishment

Yes, and credits are rewarded by game length. If you're really good and your team wins quickly, you earn less credits as a punishment.

That makes perfect fucking sense.

/s

And during those 40 hours you can’t unlock other things as you are saving for him.

but it's okay though you can just pay 40 bucks instead

what kind of star wars game doesn't let you play Darth fucking Vader from the beginning

Single player games with a story?

Fuck that even Force Unleashed let you play as Vader

LEGO Star Wars. But at least with that game it makes sense. You are continuously unlocking heroes as you play.

Probably also doesn't take 40 hours regardless of how skilled you are or how fast you progress through the campaign

I used to play Lego Star Wars a lot, and to be honest it actually takes 15-20 hours to unlock Vader in that game because you play the levels chronologically (starting with episode 1) and can only unlock players as you play levels featuring them. bad example to use haha

I mean if we want to go that route at least you have the sense of accomplishment of having beaten the game, lmao

It sounds like that is also 20hrs of play time to unlock everything in the game, and Vader is just one of the last things to get unlocked. This time it is 40hrs to unlock Vader if that is the only thing you focus on, and then you get to still grind far more for everything else.

Also true

but then again, this is /r/Piracy so I doubt most of us plan on playing multiplayer anyways

Actually it would cost $260 in loot boxes to unlock a 60k hero. A site put it to the test.

Without repeated trials (since i assume these lootboxen are "chance"-based) I'm not going to accept that number as anything but a ballpark figure.

...but that's an expensive fucking ballpark.

lUl

You know, I would actually be cool with locking Vader behind like 2-4 hours worth of playtime. That's a sense of accomplishment and it's a night of gaming. That or locking him behind a story mission about the same timeframe in.

But locking him behind 40 hours worth so that people are essentially forced to buy him if they want to play him anywhere near release date is flat out dumb.

Paying 60 bucks for a game that requires you grind some virtual currency to unlock a Main Character...

I mean, if it was F2P like League of Legends, maybe. But paying 60 buck for this?

Paying 60 bucks for a game that requires you grind some virtual currency to unlock a Main Character

This is how most games have worked forever. Not main characters, but this isn't unlocking the protagonist in single player. This is unlocking a hero in multiplayer. I mean, unlocking characters by playing the game has been a staple of gaming for a very long time. The issue here is exploiting that by upping the time consumed by 10-40 times the normal amount and then offering players a way to bypass that with cash.

Yeah, I know. BUT not 40 goddamnn hours of saving up currency for a Main Character...

Oh, I totally agree. You just made it seem like characters should never be locked.

Same. The character needing to be unlocked isn't the problem, it's the fact that the amount of time needed is so stupidly high that is so bad.

Even if they had a character with a stupid amount of unlock time, it's whatever (as long as it's just one and not the most iconic characters in a franchise). The big problem is they combine massive unlock times with a pay-to-bypass shortcut.

Yuck.

-219.000 downvotes, holy shit

Show's how upset the gaming community is about EA but I wonder if anything's going to happen.

They will decide that video games are not worth developing and make pachinko machines with a star wars theme.

Hit the wookie!

Isn't thus already the case?

it's a joke about konami

What the hell is this font?

https://i.imgur.com/ITDigRZ.png

It has never looked like that on my end.

holy fuck, that is cancer.

Just a bunch of basement dwellers throwing ass burger tantrums because they fear that they new favorite Star Wars game is going to be yet another failure, like the prequel two years ago ;)

Yup, perfect justification for your pirating every software and game out there ever created in human existence.

"ea sux lol, dis is y paireting existz!!1", great 10/10 post OP!

I will wholeheartedly buy games and software of companies that I respect and support.

I definitely cannot respect EAs shameless attempt to milk their fans and then justify it as "making it rewarding".

Next time you buy a car, let me know if it's more rewarding when you have to buy a steering wheel separately and install it yourself.

I get it and all, but don't compare them upcharging the most wanted character in a game to not being to drive your new car

Both are things you buy.

Just because one is more useful than the other doesn't devalue the fact that you paid for something and had expectations for it to fulfill it's given purpose.

That's where you're wrong. You will never have to buy a steering wheel separately. You can play the game just fine without him. A better example would be needing to buy speakers separately or something.

...then don'y buy it?

Hey, it's our humble opinion why piracy exists. If you don't like it, go ahead downvoting keyboard warrior of morality.

You got that wrong, I don't like to down-vote out of disagreement.

I would not be checking this sub if I was some sort of anti-piracy Internet activist ;p

Sorry if that came off a bit too rude and wrong, but all I just wanted to convey is that I personally found this thread a bit nonsensical :)

Nonsensical? This post is a great example for why people pirate today. EA's products are locked and dragged down with Origin DRM and contain many microtransactions for everything. They don't care about gamers, they want to make money.

All right. We respect your opinion and I kind of do understand your point. :D

You seem to have a very black and white view. There's a big difference between "no wonder piracy is popular" and "I'm pirating everything ever made".

Bet you're one of those enlightened folks on r/gamingcirclejerk

One more downvote from me :)

Lmao at people buying a giant multinational reddit gold. Either that or it's shill accounts trying to soften it by contrast

it helps keeping in at the top of the thread

I mean the money goes to reddit...

Or maybe it's for preventing them from deleting the post? Does it works that way?

Doesn't work that way, you can still delete a comment that was gilded.

No idea, but either way that doesn't explain there being 4 gilds

It's 39 now...

They gild "good" comments. Doesn't matter if its actually just a CEO going batshit.

It gets worse. People have gilded reddit executives and admins. I don't get the point of it at all. Surely reddit admins have powers way beyond what mere gilding would buy.

That's not how Gold works.

Some people are just rich as fuck. They don't care about the few dollars gilding costs.

By buying reddit gold you support the website. There is a progress bar in the right of the screen which shows how much they collected and still need.

People decided to support the website and give admins gold because they deserve it or no one else does.

Getting gold is supposed to be kind of like a reward right? Since you get features on reddit you wouldn't otherwise have.

Not disagreeing with you, just giving additional information as to why it is not worth gifting gold to an admin or exec of reddit.

Exactly; doesn't matter who gets the gold, all the money goes to maintaining the site.

Or it's ironic and funny.

Which is ridiculous, Reddit makes millions, it can easily afford hosting.

Nope. I haven’t checked into it for a year or two but reddit has historically not been profitable. If they are now, it’s probably not much.

I guarantee that Steve Huffman is making mad bank.

I’m sure he is, he’s the CEO of a tech company. That doesn’t mean that reddit has tons of money or is even profitable and the prior commenters claim that I was responding to was that reddit has plenty of money for hosting so no one should buy reddit gold. A CEOs compensations is a drop in the bucket compared to their hosting costs.

People getting paid is the only point of a business.

Yeah you're right

By buying reddit gold you support the website.

Another reason not to buy reddit gold.

Why not?

Reddit has been poisoned by cancerous mods, politics and an even worse staff - including a CEO who admitted to editing users' stuff. There are so many ethical and legal issues with that part alone.

This aint Facebook

I wouldn't buy Facebook gold either.

It shows support.

but they can't create $$$

That's because they view gilding as just a mega-upvote that costs a few bucks. If they're rich, they'll gild anyone.

TIL the morons of /r/piracy think $3 is a lot and don't know what the word irony means.

Gold is super like and report is super dislike, didn't you know?

It's ironic gilding, you know?

Maybe people are so happy it's reaching record downvotes they are celebrating the moment?

his downvotes is 240k damn lol

Jesus christ, that was at 153k with 8 gilds 3 hours ago. This is... amazing.

Almost 300k now

433k

350k now

Where are you guys seeing that??? There's not downvoted comment showing up for me.

First post and comment on the starwarsbattlefront subreddit

It looks like holding the title of being the worst company in America isn't enough. EA now holds the title of most downvoted comment in Reddit. Talking about making history.

I thought Comcast held worst company in America.

2012 and 2013 EA won the award, I think the past ones were given to comcast but not sure.

They will be fighting EA for the title of "shittest company" on new years eve, Madison Square Garden. $100 on PPV.

But the base PPV only gets you a view of a single fighter, to unlock a view of the other fighter you have to watch 40 hours of PPV so that you get a sense of achievement...

and you can skip the commercials for $2.50 per commercial. There are only 4 commercials every 10 minutes though.

well it obviously doesn't count all the downvotes :(, when i checked earlier and they had 240k downvotes they had 6500 comment karma.

6,225 comment karma

Well, damn.

It's still higher than mine, even after all their recent comments got downvoted to hell.

There you go have a few upvotes!

well it obviously doesn't count all the downvotes :(, when i checked earlier and they had 240k downvotes they had 6500 comment karma.

Only -100 karma per comment are counted

That's what I call cheating. If I recall correctly, whenever I got a downvote it counted perfectly fine

Let's not test it right now, though πŸ˜…

Reddit has a downvote cap of 100 for each comment.

Fun fact is that cap was instated during the Unidan scandal.

That's a shame then :D

In this case, yes it is, but it discourages trolls who fish for tons of downvotes in order to have the least karma possible on their account.

It's beautiful watching everyone come together to hate the same thing. Black, white, yellow, men, women, trans; we can all set our differences aside in our shared belief of EA being dickbags.

Learned my lesson with BF1 - never again to those franchises.

Which sucks, I used to be a BF and Battlefront addict.

Last game of theirs I bought was Battlefield 4, about 2-3 years ago. Other than Battlelog I really enjoyed that game.

Everything after that I either avoided because of reviews or refunded. I might have paid for a single month of Origin Access to be able to play Need for Speed with my friends. That's it. Didn't fully realize how shitty their games were until I looked at the list of EA games on Wikipedia just now.

It completely looks like they're riding a handful of franchises to the death.

Wait, Origin as in the software needed to download and play the game? I haven't had Origin on my PC for a few years, are you telling me they make you pay for a subscription now??

No, they have a opt-in service called Origin Access where you pay 4 euros a month, give or take, and in return you can play any game in the Origin Vault. It's really a pretty sweet deal as long as you remember to unsubscribe when you're not using it. Even relatively new games like Mirror's Edge Catalyst, BF1, Fifa17, and the first Battlefront are in there.

No, but you can buy Origin access which is pretty much a subscription for a lot of games on Origin. It is actually not a horrible deal as all the dragon ages and mass effects are on there, but that is something everyone has to decide for themselves.

Is there any way to pirate the games with everything unlocked? Without online features is alright

BF1 is available for download. Single player only. Along with Titanfall 2. As is BF3. Don't know about BF4. SWBF 2015 isn't available. I have a feeling this will also get cracked and let you play the campaign.

I don't see why we can't pirate the game and set up an alternate server. The alternate server should be more popular as well, as HALF THE FUCKING CONTENT WON'T BE LOCKED.

that would cost someone money to make and there's probably a law againist it

Why would you want to pirate the newer SWBF games? Single player is so bad you'd have more fun getting two star wars action figures and making them fight on your table!

you'd have more fun getting two star wars action figures and making them fight on your table!

Did this with my nephew not long ago. Something opened up within me... the ability to dictate how the battle would unfold.

I didn't share much

Is there any way to pirate action figures?

I know it's a joke but... technically yes.

I have an amiibo 'emulator' compatible with Wii U, 3DS et Switch allowing me to unlock everything in Nintendo's games without having to buy overpriced (and often out of production) figurines that are essentially just physical DLCs.

Yeah, I've seen those. A guy at work came in with a Ziploc bag full of "Amiibos". It was so cool

I use this, a small plastic disc the size of a keychain that can store up to 200 amiibos.

Do you have a 3d printer?

A regular printer and some scissors would also be better then SWBF.

Using school supplies as Star Wars spaceships would still be more fun.
Source: elementary school.

To be fair, building your own star wars shit is fun as fuck regardless! I remember building my own light saber out of cardboard tubes and green construction paper after seeing the first one in theaters in the 90s. Good times!

Hell yeah. I remember some brutal wrapping paper tube lightsaber duels.

ELI5 What's wrong with BF1?

Not a lot of content for the money spent IMO.

I think a lot of people are confused with the acronym BF1....battle front 1 or battlefield 1.....

Battlefield 1 was a good purchase IMO

The full game with PP and additional content was over 100€

There were a few people complaining about the lack of updates for what they paid for

these people got what they paid for, all four expansion packs are $15 a piece... the new version of the game is like a GOTY version where they get everything combined into one.

thats like being mad that a game's price lowers over time saying "why do new people get the benefit of having a lower price while i had the game for over a year now and dont get that benefit?" because yall fucking bought into it earlier before the price came down.

hell i bought the game at launch but i never paid for the premium pass garbage (there are no premium only servers in bf1), and ive been getting the expansions one at a time. i dont feel ripped off that people get a bundled deal a year after the game fucking came out.

Honestly, it was just sort of meh for me. Wasn't horrible, but after the initial few hours got sort of bored. Tried to get back into it later but there was a shit ton of DLC which was made very visible that I didn't have.

Really expectations were really high and when it came out it felt like it had less overall content than Battlefront 2 which came out in 2005.

bf1 is an amazing game, probably one of the only ea that treats players fair and is fun

Honestly I love bf1. Maybe I'm a minority but I've been having a blast with it lately. Huge bf4 player too but I personally never understood the hate.

I mean its a great game but holy shit I can't purchase and support this anymore. I got duped a bit with the cost of ownership for Battlefield 1

Learned my lesson with Battlefield 3 looooong ago.

I wish nobody buys their games. I pirate the fuck out of their games.

I'm leaving free pirated copies of Shadows of the Empire on floppy discs at my local Walmart!

Floppies? You mean those 3d-printed save icons?

That was the funniest thing I have seen today. Thanks lol

I am proud of you

"Piracy actually improves game sales."

"Let's punish EA by pirating their game."

I'd love to see the meeting where they decided they were going to get rich AF, with projections and shit, and now the PR meetings to do something about this shitstorm.

Fuck you EA. When you BUY a burguer, you don't want the cheese to be a DLC. FUCK.YOU.

They're still going to make their money. People are already changing their tune now that they've announced it wont take as long to unlock hero's. All they need is that initial buy in from most consumers and then the whales will give them the rest of their money.

They still win.

Uhhh a cheeseburger costs more than a hamburger.

As you add things it gets more expensive.

yeah but you don't have to wait 3 months for your cheese when you know they have a package of cheese right fucking there behind the counter.

This comparison is asinine.

Why? Often you don't get required game assets until months after release. EA is notorious for releasing games that are only 75% complete and then putting out paid DLC for the remainder.

Haha. Here's your cheeseburger. That'll be $5. Thank you. Oh, the cheese won't be here for another hour, you'll have to wait. I know the restaurant critic got theirs in 10 minutes, but they were in a rush to give us our five star rating. Hey, I'll tell you what, if you give me another $5, I'll go get that cheese for you right away before the burger gets cold. Pretty good deal, eh?

To be fair that's almost accurate to what people actually want. You can get extra fries or cheese at some stores if you time it right and ask them while they're closing or throwing out extra, and they might do it, especially at non franchise stores. Or they just like a returning customer and do it because you're nice and cheerful. Otherwise you pay an extra $0.20 for cheese.

But that's where it breaks. You bought a $5.20 cheeseburger not a hamburger, so you better get the cheese. Not gamble on cheese with $5 total in lootcrate food. Oh and actually timing your appearance at the store and getting something out of it gives a sense of warm accomplishment, cause you actually did something there.

Unrelated PSA: Please do not show up to drive throughs minutes before closing expecting free food. I would rather throw out the extra than give it to a guy who thinks he being slick asking if we have extra stuff.

Oh yeah, don't do this at any franchise or any place that has an actual process.

I love how we're all like "Yeah guys, we've been voting with our wallet forever now"

But hey, anything to bring gamers and pirates closer together is fine with me, even a mutual villain.

No wonder stealing exists*

You're kidding yourself if you think any of these companies valued the consumer over profits any time of the year.

Anyone who runs a business that's not a small business understands the point of a business is to create wealth and make more profit for its investors. That is literally the legal and moral obligation of any business. Everyone who has a role in the business is hired to help achieve that goal, and that's why we have most of the things we have now achieved after the 18th century.

I feel like the anger seen here towards EA is half-misplaced. EA is a crappy company that makes empty promises, but also at fault are the consumers for giving them tons and tons of cash. Like why do people pre-order games? Hello?

I'm certain most people on this subreddit didn't even consider pre-ordering this game, not after seeing how shit the prequel was. The real question is, who are these idiots throwing away their money just because it's Star Wars? We all know it's mostly these kinds of people who initially buy these games then don't bother thinking twice about them a few weeks later.

Moral obligation? The moral obligation of a business is to keep the environment intact, take care of it's workers, and not burn the bridges that got it to where it is today.

The monetary obligation flies right in the face of the moral obligation.

Are you just describing things that you would like to be true, or what?

If it's a scam, generally the solution is not to fall for it if you can avoid it. I mean it's not like you need to play video games. Nothing's really going to be affected seriously if one doesn't have video games. So why don't people just stop playing the games?

Because many gamers aren't connected with the community, and those are the ones they get most of the profits from

Will this new Battlefront be able to be cracked for the story? I don't want to give this company any more of my money

I was looking for a BF1 and couldn't find one, but tbh I didn't look to hard.

I too am semiintersted in the campaign and would like to know.

I would imagine, based on the terrible PR for EA alone, that every major piracy group will be dying to get this scalp.

Come on Baldman, this is your time.

Next week, milinials are killing the video game industry.

Muh free market!

milinials

*libruls

Fuck EA.

I actually never thought I would have resorted to piracy outside of emulation, but with companies like Bethesda and EA they make me WANT to pirate their games. They'll get my money when they start giving a shit about the consumer.

Not even worth pirating. The only EA game I buy was battlefield and I probably won't buy them anymore

+322K Downvotes at the moment of this comment. They are quite litterally digging their own grave LMAO.

Video game dunkey was right. They found a way to fuck it up.

What if I told you piracy leads to more money for EA in the end due to WOM marketing...

What if I told you piracy leads to more money for EA in the end due to WOM marketing...

No.

Let's ignore science!

This whole thing is a most entertaining dumpster fire.

Will pirate this to play the single player campaign (not interested in MP). And then I will continue not buying EA games until the entire board is forced to jump into a volcano.

We need to pirate each game made by ea, I'm never giving them a penny again

Why even pirate? They aren't that good these days anyway.

Yes!! Goku take my energy downvote

Why should I start playing video games again when shit like this is posted all the time? I haven’t played regularly since modern warfare 2 came out and I frankly don’t want to buy incomplete or pay to win games.

They’re plenty of games that are great and definitely worth your time to play. Just because EA does some scummy thing doesn’t mean you shouldn’t jump back into gaming.

and definitely worth your time to play. Just because EA does some scummy thing doesn’t mean you shouldn’t jump back into gaming.

$60 is 5 months subscription to the Humble Monthly which should be at least 40 games. I mean sure there arent many AAA titles in there, but what the fuck does that even mean anymore if this is what EA is putting out.

If only we can pirate the multiplayer...

Just get the OG battlefront 2 and play that multiplayer since game ranger is a thing and they also brought back the servers.

Or just buy games used. Don't need to try to defend your piracy, we all want free shit.

There aren't used games on PC.

Used games still have DRM. It's a gamble whether you'll even be able to play them.

Buying games used doesn't make exploitative loot boxes and less fucked up. Whereas some pirate is going to figure out a way to put the game and it's bullshit paywalled content out there at some point.

I'll probably pirate it to play the campaign and that's it.

It's Cod:WWII all over again for me

They are a business so more money is always the goal. If it's an online game they need some sort of return to keep pushing out new and quality content. They just need a better way to put forth those in game purchases or start charging a monthly, quarterly or annual fee for online play

Seriously though, who still gives EA money???!

What I find most disturbing is all the people in comments saying they are cancelling their pre-order. Why in the fucking fuck would anyone still pre-order games especially from EA? You fucking retards deserve this.

People are sheep

I think it's pretty easy to get caught up in the hype, especially if you like the subject matter. I'm very vocal about my hate for EA, and the way that microtransactions and loot boxes have taken over gaming recently, and I never pre-order games - but I fucking love Star Wars, and Battlefront was one of my favorite games of all time. Getting caught up in the excitement and potential of a great game gets to the best of us. This whole blowout has just made me realize that continuing to buy the games that contain the practices that I'm so vocally against is pretty stupid.

The only explanation that makes sense for me currently is that if you pre order a physical copy you can get some steep discounts around e3 (on amazon at least).

I keep forgetting and kicking myself for it.

The nice thing about this is that you can cancel it whenever you want. So if that means you can get whatever new game for much cheaper if it still looks good or if you change your mind you can back out.

I think with certain companies you shouldn't pre order at all but with others that consistently put out good products (like Nintendo or something) it makes more sense.

While I totally agree with you regarding pre-ordering anything by EA, it still makes me happy to see so many people cancel. Give them some nice statistics to comb through while they try to extinguish the dumpster fire

Why Pre-order anything anymore? Pre-Ordering came about because EB Games and the like would run out of copies on release date and you'd have to wait for more to arrive.

There is no physical limit on digital copies, they can sell a billion of them if people buy it.

They offer you exclusives now, which are oftentimes not available after release. If you're really into whatever game/series it is, especially if you're a completionist, it's hard to resist (if you're planning on spending anyway). I know it's dumb, it's just easy to get caught up in the excitement.

I understand pre-ordering shit if it comes with physical stuff in limited supply, but a lot of games nowadays don't actually offer anything substantial for pre-ordering. Like they throw in a weapon skin or some shit like that which is so not worth it.

Piracy exists because yall are thieves. Stop trying to make it out like you have some moral high ground.

To bad the post has been locked.

I can't help but view locked threads as mods saying "fuck it, moderating is hard".

I bought the Mass Effect Games on PS3 ages ago, so when I moved to PC I thought "hey, it'll probably be like a fiver for each one and all the DLC". Nope, if you want the full experience on PC, you need to use BioWare points so all the dlc comes out at like Β£50+.

High seas it was.

Holy fucking shit. I saw that comment last night before bed and it was at -81816. Now it’s over -375k

Not interested in this game at all, but I'm wondering why this is being portrayed as greedy. The option to buy Vader is there, but it's not the only way you can obtain this character. The option to earn Vader after around 40 hours of playtime is also there. Are people saying they don't want to grind 40 hours to earn Vader on a game they just shelled $60 out for? Well, if you don't enjoy the game enough to consider playing is as fun, rather than a "grind", then don't buy it in the first place.

What makes many people so angry is they purchase a premium version of the game (not the $60 base) and then find out the game is filled with micro-transactions that are designed to get you to spend more money. Having the "heroes" locked behind this micro-transaction system has upset a lot of game players.

First it was "DLC" that cost extra, then season passes, now in game "loot" boxes and the ability to use real world money to obtain more items in the game.

I get it EA is a corporation with over $3b in revenue just in digital sales alone and this trend will not back down...since the investors won't let it happen....but as a gamer I will stop buying these products and stop spending my money on this type of game.

That doesn't address what he said. He asked why people are upset because yes, you can buy - but you can also earn. Therefore they're not locked behind a paywall they're just locked behind time in game which as he said... If one doesn't want to invest time in the game I'm puzzled on why they'd buy it anyway.

Not interested in the game because I can't in good conscience support what Disney has done to Star Wars with the political BS and the destruction of canon and the EU, but I get his point.

What makes many people so angry is they purchase a premium version of the game (not the $60 base)

There really wasn't a premium version this time around. The big pitch for this game was that paid DLC and expansions was being done away with, all content would be available for free. The "Deluxe Edition" was basically just early access and early upgrade unlocks, it never had exclusive content different than the standard edition.

The big catch is that all content being available for free doesn't mean easily available for free. It means they lock it behind so many hours of gameplay to incentivise people just buying it.

This whole concept was EA's way of trying to find a loophole where they got to claim that all DLC was technically free while simultaneously still being able to take in money for DLC.

I was pirating games when games came on tape, and you think companies like EA are to blame? Fuck up.

Non sequitur?

Damn now it’s at 350k 31 Gold Lmao

The gold is representative of the whale population in general and illustrates the issue. The majority doesn't have to like it as long as a minority still shells out.

I wasn't even going to bother pirating the game, sure as shit am now. I bought the first one when it was on special also. Congrats EA you have just created a pirate.

This is why I'm still playing the old one on gameranger, plus the Battlefront III Legacy OB mod from Moddb

http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-battlefront-iii-legacy/downloads/battlefront-iii-legacy-open-beta-3

BTW I don't advocate piracy, being pissed off at the managers and decision makers is no reason to rip off the work.

Most corporations are like this, and they literally have highly paid and extremely intelligent staff whose sole purpose is to squeeze every last penny, regardless of consequences.

The reason we notice it with EA is because of how comfortable and experienced we are with games. And although EA might be very evil indeed (rip Westwood, maxis etc), they are only doing what transnational corporations are supposed to do. We need to solve the problem from the root.

Take a look at this list. Your comment has been met with universal negativity. This is not what gamers want.

  • u/routesaroundit

This couldn't have been put more succinctly and accurately.

It’s gotten to the point where I️ won’t buy from EA or Ubisoft. It’s such a joke anymore.

Honestly, I'll gladly pay for a well-made game. EA can fuck itself with a rake, though, and not the fun end. I got the last Battefront game used so I wouldn't be giving them any money, and I have no plans of paying for this one.

You called?

I would love it if the Reddit piracy community made it a personal vendetta to break whatever DRM there Is on Star wars and the DLC and release it all. It'd be legendary.

I don't understand why people keep guilding the comment. The community has spoken and people keep turning it into a joke by literally HANDING THEM MONEY

Makes no sense to me.

Why do Xbox One games cost 30 dollars when Super Mario Brothers cost 110 dollars?

Maybe greed is something that we can express too and not just corporations.

Because most Xbox one games are ridden with microtransactions. Super Mario bros is filled to the brim with content. Completely worth it.

Super Mario Brothers doesn't have voice acting or orchestral music or 3d graphics.

It's worth more? No wonder games companies don't care about good games anymore.

The most important question of the day is; where do we find said downvoted thread? I looked.

42 reddit gold... Wut

They are basically treating a full $60 game as a f2p p2w title. Anyone who buys this is a piece of shit fucking over the rest of the gaming community and telling these scumbag developers to keep fucking everyone over.

I can't even remember the last time I bought a full $60 game anymore. Probably like 3 years ago. Game quality keeps going down while micro transactions are mainstream now.

I mean look at dota 2. Its completely free and theres 0 pay to win elements. They still make shit tons of money from cosmetics. That's how "microtransactions" should work in a game. EA can keep digging their own graves though, these shitty business practices will catch up with them sooner or later, hopefully.

The consumer has never been valued in capitalism, they were talking about this kind of thing 200 years ago.

How about just support non-shitty games? It's not like there's a shortage of good games coming out. By playing the big AAA multiplayer-centric games and contributing to their communities, you're still helping the assholes.

They wrecked Plants vs Zombies.

Support G2A buy battlefront on there. It's stolen any way.

Good luck with that.

I don't really care much for this whole situation, but what makes this different from any other game where in game currency can be earned and bought? RB6 and LoL come to mind.

It’s sad because even public outcries like this won’t make EA Stop being Greedy Fucks

I don't even pirate EA games... It's been years since they made a game I would even play for free.

Game devs flipping their shit over piracy would at least be justified if they released good games instead of the same stale, repainted piece of shit from the previous year

Their behavior is fucking insane.
Reminds me of Monsanto, constantly testing how sickeningly greedy & psychopathic they can be before people tell them to fuck off for good.

You're a few years late on that... Perhaps a decade.

Currently, EA's comment has been given Gold 46 times, and the vote total is at (negative) -514,131. I've never seen numbers like this. People are seriously fired up.

-524k points lmfao

Well they certainly set the bar fairly low for anyone to beat that record of most downvoted reddit comment and thats no easy feat.

"EA gives gold."

I havent pirated a single video game since Oblivion thanks to Steam (which i now 'own' anyway), but i kinda wanna pirate this and play the single player campaign just out of spite.

EA sells more business to business than business to consumer. Their main customers are Wal-mart, Best Buy, Gamestop, Amazon, PlayStation store, xBox store, Redbox, etc. Know your place in the food chain. End users are plankton.

Why not just boycott this game? Reddit users already showed their power. Unite. FULL FLEDGED BOYCOTT THIS GAME. Only way scum bag EA execs will learn.

Negative 600k, it was 350k when I went to bed. The nation has spoken, even though they won't change this model because money.

They recently updated BF4 and now I can't play it. They won't fix it either.

Hopefullt the single player campaign will get cracked. Only interestes in that anyway.

Fuck EA the only shooter that I bought from them that i can remember is Battlefield 1 and only because i wanted the space grey Xbox One S (worth it) have a black xbox, original xbox elite, and now this. EA you've been down in the gutter for a while but now you really just hit the bottom.

They must change people need to be valued.

Reddit algorithm probably detects that comment as "brigaded" and has stopped letting it affect their comment karma.

This makes as much sense as not buying from Walmart or McDonalds for five years. That won't stop them as 98.999% of their customers don't care or understand why they should not buy from them.

Then try to reach your target audience which isn't the average Walmart drone but internet savvy users.

If this picks up news (and EA's low score certainly did) it may easily reach a higher percentage than retarded commonfolk in walmart.
