LMAO. U got me.
1 FearAndDelight 2018-04-29
What happens if we listen to multiple genres?
1 piyuzh 2018-04-29
lol I almost listen to all genres
1 xtfftc 2018-04-29
Yeah, fuck that. I'd rather have us be split by the sources we use. E.g. youtube rip prison, soulseek prison, the pirate bay prison, apollo prison, etc. I'm more likely to have a lot in common with the people who are members of the same private tracker because they share the same type of passion for music, even if we listen to completely incompatible genres.
1 ipadloos 2018-04-29
Great, I'll be split all over the land in that case....
1 Princess_Leia91 2018-04-29

1 The_Fetaljuice 2018-04-29

1 thegreatescape990 2018-04-29
I hope you don't listen to Katy Perry and napalm death at the same time.
1 D0PETHR0NE 2018-04-29
I f*p to Perry while listening to Napalm Death ?
1 MofuckaOfInvention 2018-04-29
Not the reverse?
1 betabeat 2018-04-29
You what? I can't understand what you're trying to say with that asterisk in the way
1 1312_143 2018-04-29
When I was last engaged in the action I noticed I didn't hear any vowels being made ?
the 'f' and 'p' sure .. even though quite indistinguishable
So now I leave an asterisk so that people still know what I mean even though it might not match their own f*pping sound. A very inclusive system if I say so myself.
1 jobey39 2018-04-29
How do you "almost listen"? Hover your finger above the play button, then "Nah"?
Fuck my grammar lol
1 Kotee_ivanovich 2018-04-29
Its a liftime in prison then. A year for every song
1 TooBusyforReddit 2018-04-29
Even if they sentenced us only 6 months per song or movie, I think I've downloaded enough to get 20 years.
1 Cephalopod435 2018-04-29
These days I think most do. Even of you define yourself as a 'punk' or a 'grunger' or a 'pop prince/ss' you have to aknoledge that there are at least a couple of songs you listen to that are outside your genre...
1 Logseman 2018-04-29
The whole stratification of people by music genre was something that made sense when it actually conformed part of your identity, like when you’re in an urban tribe. Today you can pirate/stream anything, so any human being with a modicum of curiosity will get exposed to music outside of what they listen to. In my experience the streaming services’ algorithms are meant for advertisers to get a more refined profile of what you are listening to, not because they help you find music you like inside one genre.
1 Aussie_chopperpilot 2018-04-29
1 Elee3112 2018-04-29
Hung drawn and quartered if you have downloaded exactly 4 genre.

I buy Spotify but pirate my movies and tv because I don’t want to fuck around with buying every fucking streaming service I do have Netflix tho
You should pirate some punctuation.
1 Afghan_dan 2018-04-29
The thing with Spotify is that it's worth it to just buy it.
1 Probably_Important 2018-04-29
I'd pay for a streaming service if it was AiO like Spotify is. I'm not going to juggle multiple services looking for shit to watch. Just automate my downloads and use Plex instead.
1 queefbee 2018-04-29
What sucks though is that recently a lot of albums of multiple artists have been disappearing from Spotify. Probably either party renegotiating on contracts but in the meantime I'm left without some of my favourite music.
1 artwooo 2018-04-29
I can't afford 120 €/year for something I would use thrice or less a week
1 literatureguy12 2018-04-29
Get Spotify++, it's a free hacked version
1 gaspah 2018-04-29
Nah its too buggy... i used it for about a year.. in that time it deleted my offline files at least 100x... then for some reason it wouldn't allow my pc to save offline files at all.. i went through tech support and how did they help? By deleting my offline files from all my devices (the same error still occured the very next day)... cost be a fortune in data charges being half awake early in the morning.. mp3s dont delete themselves every 2-3 days for mo apparent reason.. drm is drm is drm... i now hace the same playlist (expanded) on all the same devices no sweat..
1 sexi_squidward 2018-04-29
It's been so long since I pirated music. I use to mostly pirate music. I actually barely pirate anything these days now thinking about it. Like, I use Kodi for certain shows but that's it. I don't waste my time on shows movies still in theaters if they are in poor quality.
Yes but if I ever see Spotify original in unsubscribing.
1 haufii 2018-04-29
That is if you're in the position to have a good amount of bandwidth and speed. I on the other hand do not when I'm home so it rather use a high capacity mSD with all my music content.
1 squidrawesome 2018-04-29
Isn't it more worth to have premium if you don't have bandwidth since you can download everything automatically + the fact that Spotify often has better servers than the hosters of soulseek or other torrents?
1 jason2306 2018-04-29
Wouldn't it be even worth it with bad bandwith and speed? Since it has offline mode
1 reissGRVS 2018-04-29
When you buy Spotify you can download to listen offline
1 00000000011 2018-04-29
You can download to your phone with Spotify.
I don't think it's as much as you want but you can download at least 10 albums or so before it starts clearing your older saves from the memory.
Maybe there is a way to make it save more idk.
1 Nayef_Mazraani 2018-04-29
My life... 30kb/s wifi... never knew the other people have 600kb/s as a standard
1 Niekh03 2018-04-29
Wow, can you even load pages? We have 100 Mb/s at home and my friend has a 10 Gb/s connection since last month. Netherlands btw
1 jojo_31 2018-04-29
10gbps what the fuck
Yeah its really high speed and not that expensive tbh, they started building the network in this region last year (de wolden). 10 gb/s is like 95 euro or 110 euro with tv per month. I don't need such speeds myself but yeah why not if you want to pay that
I guess it could be useful for hotels etc. But they probably already have such connections.
1 jamesholden 2018-04-29
uh, you must forget that you're on reddit.
many setups on /r/homelab have the routing capacity, and disk IO to handle 10gbps loads.

10Gbps is more common than you think in server-land, definitely rare in consumer situations though.
Also for disks you'd only need a couple SSDs in RAID0 to make use of 10Gbps, totally possible.
Yeah with raid it's obviously pretty easy. On consumer level though if you live in a dense neighborhood you could split the bill with 10 people bam gigabit internet for 9,5€ a month. Or you make them pay 11€ each so you get it for free yourself.
1 abdulocracy 2018-04-29
I think you mean 100 Mbps and 10 Gbps, which translates into roughly 12.5 MB/s and 1.25 GB/s down.
1 FunnyPocketBook 2018-04-29
It really depends on who you are talking to, most people use "MB" as megabyte and "Mb" or "mb" as megabit, so he was correct
Yeah I meant bits not bytes haha.
1 sexypantstime 2018-04-29
No, your terminology was correct MB is megabyte and Mb is megabit. "Per second" can be expressed as "/s" or "ps". I think the person who tried to correct you is a bit confused.
Haha thanks for the clarification, I just got a bit confused myself
That's very slow, where do you live?
I currently have around 15 Mb/s down.
50Mbs here with vdsl
Lebanon... 4gb download takes like 14 hours
1 ScyllaHide 2018-04-29
more time to read books :D libgen book is then downloaded in a minute.
That's OK. You can stream HD videos and shit. Not great but for Libanon...
1 TheAwesomeButler 2018-04-29
omg im actually visiting for a week and my buddy here has 2mbps in his apartment. so crazy we're downloading at less than 200kb/s
even a single Snapchat takes several seconds to download
how do people stream Netflix or any online content
They dont. Youtube works fine at 200px if youre the only one using thewifi at home
1 hardknockcock 2018-04-29
Not really, premium allows you to download music to not use bandwidth
1 damnsong 2018-04-29
10 dollars a month is rape.
I have Spotify++ on my phone so I don't need to cough up the twelve dollars
1 ficarra1002 2018-04-29
Yep, same here.
I'm willing to pay for a certain level of convenience + a fair and affordable price.
1 I_love_breadsticks 2018-04-29
This is quite simple. Spotify offers virtually every song, and those few more niche songs that it may not have you can easily find elsewhere. No video streaming service will ever be able to achieve this.
1 Serial_Psycho 2018-04-29
pretty much half my main library that i've built up over the years (8000+ songs) are not on spotify. I know its unfair to spotify to judge it for that but i'd rather take my physical selection over a service with only half my music anyday.
1 [deleted] 2018-04-29
There is one video streaming service. THEPIRATEBAY
1 goopium 2018-04-29
stremio with pirate bay, even downloading is passe now for everything but movies that are masterpeices.
I’ll check it out
1 SmolRat 2018-04-29
There’s tons of music I listen to that I can’t find on the Pirate Bay. :/
1 LTC_Squirell 2018-04-29
Spotify is actually pretty good, it starts to play music I didnt follow but I actually like. While not piracy, I am breaking the TAC, not everyone lives in the same house.

Was going to say this too. It's distribution that's punishable but the history of enforcement seems to only show it on a large scale (Napster, Megaupload, etc.)
1 MiningMarsh 2018-04-29
I've recieved several DMCA requests for piracy. You have to be careful in the US.
Careful for what?
DMCA is just a takedown request, remove the item if you have them on those shitty sites lol, they are just requesting nothing else
As long as I know lol
1 qdhcjv 2018-04-29
DMCA takedown requests are sent to media sites that are distributing copyrighted content. You probably got a scary letter from your ISP. They rarely have actual legal teeth.
Simply torrenting is enough to receive a DMCA, due to seeding. They often don't even check if you are actually seeding or not.
1 QuidProQuoChocobo 2018-04-29
Well you would have to be seeding for them to notice you....
I live in switzerland. We are allowed to download movies and music from the internet, even when it's an illegal source. But uploading said media is forbidden.
1 kmeisthax 2018-04-29
Most regimes have this implicitly. The only country I know of that explicitly says downloading is illegal is Japan. Almost every other country just doesn't have a law targeting people who have obtained an unlicensed copy of a work. Fair use and/or first sale wouldn't apply, so literally anything you could do with your unlicensed copy would be infringement (e.g. if you buy a bootleg DVD you can't legally resell it), but the act of merely obtaining an unlicensed copy is not itself an infringement.
That being said, I would be extremely careful trying to use this as a justification as it more-or-less only protects people who download from Mega. Copyright infringement can apply to any person who is making or transmitting unlicensed copies; which would include the torrent creator, tracker operator, and every client in the swarm. If you are using any kind of P2P software, then you are likely uploading, unless you've specifically configured your client to prohibit sharing entirely. BitTorrent clients are specifically designed to deprioritize or outright refuse to share with clients that don't share back; and trackers may similarly ban you from the swarm outright. (If it's a private tracker, you'll get banned when your ratio goes to shit.)
There's also been various attempts to add "making available" as a type of copyright infringement. You see, right now, a copyright owner has to actually join a swarm and start downloading in order to get a list of people infringing on their work. "Making available" would cover any instance in which you (or your P2P software) advertised unlicensed content for download, even if you were lying and didn't intend to actually transfer it. That means that just joining an unlicensed swarm would be enough to get a nastygram in your inbox, and the semantic difference between downloading and infringement would largely disappear... again, except for people who pay Kim Dotcom money to avoid paying the copyright owners money.
1 enfdude 2018-04-29
But uploading said media is forbidden.
But uploading said media is forbidden.
Which basically kills torrenting since.
1 ciko2283 2018-04-29
set upload limit to 0?
it still leaks some data, and even if you don't upload anything at all, you still show up on their clients.
1 CaptnAwesomeGuy 2018-04-29
Not the worst thing if there are alternatives
Yeah but you see, downloading alone is legal in most places. IDK how they handle it in the usa, but here in Germany for example downloading is also legal as long as you don't upload it. But this is basically worthless. Torrenting is still illegal even with this exception, and One Click Hosters are undetectable either way (unless we are talking about honeypots here). So... you get almost nothing out of it.
1 gunther1992 2018-04-29
Why are one click hosters undetectable?
1 DevilsIsland9246 2018-04-29
I've read that you can get a huge fine in Berlin even if you just download without uploading.

The fact that
so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.
Deep House anyone??
